McCain: Ambition First, Country Last
The way that John McCain has changed in the last eight years is shocking. A person I once respected and admired for standing up to corruption or questionable attack tactics has done a 180 and is the total opposite of what I once endorsed. He is a despicable, ignorant, hypocrite that will say anything and do anything to become the President of the United States. He is willing to go so far as to hurt our country in order to gain for personal reasons.
McCain states, "Behind all of these claims and positions by Senator Obama lies the ambition to be president. What's less apparent is the judgment to be commander-in-chief. And in matters of national security, good judgment will be at a premium in the term of the next president."
Unfortunately for McCain, he must of forgot why he ran for U.S. President in 2000. Perhaps, it was bad judgment on his part to claim ambition as the reason why he ran 8 years ago. Do you really think that reason has changed? Keith Olbermann captures this moment perfectly on Countdown and questions McCain's stability.
In his memoir, Worth the Fighting For, McCain claims, "I didn't decide to run for President to start National Crusade for Reform. I believed in or to run a campaign as if it were some grand act of Patriotism. In truth, I wanted to be President. Because it had became My ambition to be President. I was Sixty-two years old when I made the decision and I thought it was my one shot at the prize."
Obama responded eloquently by stating, "I have never suggested that Senator McCain picks his positions on national security based on politics or personal ambition. I have not suggested it because I believe that he genuinely wants to serve America’s national interest. Now, it’s time for him to acknowledge that I want to do the same.”
How many more lies will McCain tell before he gives up? How many will it take before the media holds him accountable? What will it take for ordinary citizens to stand up and demand that McCain stop using this smear tactic in order to win? As a cynic, I do not expect apathetic Americans to be outraged . . . as an idealist I hope it is as soon as tomorrow.
