The South Will Rise Again!
I do not recommend anything that I have not tried out first. So, when Michael Koppy first contacted me about his song “One Great Mornin” I was hesitant to promote it without listening to it. Half a month later I can proudly and confidently approve the song. This song is what every Southern Progressive needs to hear in order to energize the base. It is perhaps that I am reading Bob Moser’s Blue Dixie that I have become more conscious about the South. As a Southerner I have felt ashamed of being a progressive . . . it felt taboo to claim that you supported Democrats. I have learned that we closet Democrats actually outnumber conservatives.Enter Koppy’s song . . . he uses a nice harmony to capture your attention and the lyrics make you forget what you are doing requiring your full undivided attention. I swear I listened to the song about 10 times in a row before I realized I was intoxicated with the message and tune.Koppy speaks about how Republicans that played to people’s morals betrayed the South and created one that is nothing that Southerners ever envisioned. He offer’s hope because, “One Great Mornin’ Dixie’s gonna wake up. And then the South’s gonna rise again.” This is a call to Southern liberals to wake up and fight back. The commentary that Koppy sheds on the suburbs and the “New South” is on point. He critiques politicians that use the bible to gain votes. His message, that we are all united economically, is exactly what Moser argues in his book. He adds that, “there’s no splittin’ up black and white; we got the same blood and same heart. We’ve each walked miles in the other man’s shoes, and they won’t push us apart.”Koppy wrote the song about a year ago. He remixed it and has re-released it just in time for the 2008 Presidential Election. Democrats in the South need to rally and support their candidates this election. The song is available on Michael Koppy’s website as a free download. Help promote the song but more importantly the message. “One Great Mornin” is the song that we needed to inspire and mobilize the South this year. As Koppy claims, “No conservative’s ever helped folks live; it’s time for a hard turn to the left.”
