The Change that the Maverick Claims to Bring
When John McCain and his campaign touted victory on the Sunday press circuit, no one challenged their assertions because the legislation had yet to be voted on. Today, the DOW took the biggest plunge in a single day.
The McCain campaign and House Republicans began to spin the outcome and blames Barack Obama and Democrats for not passing the bill. Barack Obama handled the matter like a statesman by reminding voters at a campaign rally in Denver to "stay calm, because things are never smooth in Congress." John McCain on the other hand accused Barack Obama and Democrats of putting “politics ahead of country."
Steve Schmidt, John McCain’s campaign strategist, claimed on Meet the Press that “What Senator McCain was able to do was to help bring all of the parties to the table, including the House Republicans, whose votes were needed to pass this.”
Justin Gardner adds, “You can’t claim leadership on an issue and take credit for its success beforehand, and then turn around and blame Dems when 60% of them voted for the measure and almost 70% of your Republican compadres voted against it.”
John McCain was taking credit for “"building a winning bailout coalition- hours before the voted failed and stocks tanked.”
Steve Benen notes, “Most Democrats backed the bill that McCain supported, while House Republicans -- you know, the ones McCain brought to the table as part of his triumph -- rejected it, on a nearly 2-to-1 margin. Who put politics ahead of country?”
This is the change that John McCain brings to the table. He cannot even get his own party to rally behind and support him on this bailout. How the hell do you think he can achieve a bipartisan effort as President?
He is as useless as George W. Bush. They talk the talk but do not know how to walk the walk. The man could not even multi-task last week when he suspended his campaign to dedicate his time in achieving a bailout that would be approved by all. He should have spent more time campaigning because he was usless in drafting legislation that even his own party would support.
Every day that goes by is another indicator on how unqualified, unprepared and out of the loop John McCain is on the issues that plague our nation.
This is the same man that claims he knows how to win wars, folks! He cannot even persuade his own party to support the bill that last week he claimed we needed to pass or else the economy would collapse. There is no way John McCain can spin his away of this mess.
