Review: Religulous

I saw Bill Maher’s “Religulous” at the River Oaks Theatre earlier this week and I loved it. I must note though that I am an avid fan of Bill Maher and enjoy his sense of humor, so my opinions may be bias to some extent.

Do You Communifake?

To be honest, when I first read the word “communifake,” I was no sure what it meant but once I learned its definition, I may be guilty of practicing it.

Communifake is the act of pretending to initiate and maintain a fake conversation on your mobile phone around other people. Younger people, according to British mobile operator 3, usually implement this type of “deceit.” They “found that 74 percent of people between the ages of 18 and 24 admit to communifaking.”

Justification for the act varies among individuals but it boils down to security. Some do it because they want to avoid speaking to someone they see. Others feel safe pretending to speak to someone as they walk to their car from late night shopping at the mall. Most do it in social situations so they do not feel nor appear like loners.
