The Significance of the Last 24 Hours

Democrats have turned out in record numbers to vote in the past 24 hours in a total of 4 states spanning different regions of the United States. This is not a West Coast phenomenon nor is it a Blue State surprise. Democrats from the North, the South and the West have come out to vote in record numbers for one person, Obama. Clinton has been humiliated in the last 24 hours causing her to restructure her campaign team after suffering double digit losses. Although the four states are not delegate heavy the momentum and shift they deliver at this particular time could impact the election to come in Ohio and Texas in particular. Obama did not just win he beat Clinton bad. In Louisiana it was 57%-36%, Nebraska 68%-32%, Washington 68%-31% and Maine 59%-40%.

Obama has the potential of delivering the final blow if he campaigns aggressively and intelligently in the next month. Clinton's financial troubles, dwindling support and attacks for the right may succumb if Obama can consistently show the American people that he can not just win but win with large margins. As polls show that he can compete against McCain and he continues to distinguish himself as a movement of "Change" he will guarantee himself the nomination of the Democratic Party and possibly be the next leader of the US.

As for McCain he should consider if he is the best candiate for the GOP. It is quite "crystal" that conservatives are not supporting him and if he continues to be selfish and wants to be the candidate for the GOP he must know that he won't gain the support of his party. He is undermining the GOP and their values by purporting himself as the candidate of the party and he will lose. The last 24 hours should be an indicator that he is not wanted. In fact in Maine, McCain lost to Romney who is not even in the race anymore. In the last four primaries he has only won 1. At one point McCain must entertain the idea that perhaps he should sacrifice his goals for those of the GOP if they are to have any chance this November.
