Should Some People Not Vote?

Tonight, 20/20 will air a segment by John Stossel that entertains the argument that perhaps some people should not vote. This would have been a great piece and offered interesting dialogue in a subject matter that most folks do not second-guess.

That is … until John Stossel inserted his agenda and bias and attempted to make a piece on discouraging young voters from participating in their civic duty.

I agree with the premise of the argument. I do not think that uninformed voters should be casting their votes but at the same time I do not believe the government should set up standards in order to indentify these individuals.  Read More »

Palin Stumbles in Couric Interview

Sometimes I think I am dreaming this McCain-Palin ticket and I pinch myself so that I may wake up. But, then interviews such as the Katie Couric one with Sarah Palin, make me wish I was dreaming because this is sad.

Sarah Palin has a 50/50 chance of becoming our next Vice President folks. She has a 1 in 4 chance of becoming the President and if she is “selected” in November, she is a heartbeat away from becoming the President of the United States.  Read More »

How to Make Jake Tapper Look Like a Fool

The first step is easy . . . let him create the illusion that he is attempting to be neutral and seek the truth. The second step is to put on your thinking cap (you know the one from Elementary school) and attempt to make sense of the crap. Here we go!

I appreciate Jake Tapper and his attempt to be non-partisan as a journalist but when you make mistakes as you attempt to justify false claims of an ad . . . then it gets tricky. It is astonishing to me to hear foul play on the conservative side when John McCain and Sarah Palin are allowed to distort and lie to the American people on a daily basis. Why are we not calling them out?

I am not a journalist. I am a partisan blogger. I am here to report the facts as they are distorted by the right wing. Let us examine Tapper’s claims and the fallacy in his argument.  Read More »

The Sex Mis-Education in America

Steve Benen enlightened me today of the fight at capitol hill to do away with abstinence only education. In fact, James Dobson’s Focus on the Family, a religious right organization, claims that, "“Liberals Want Federal Abstinence Education Cut."

It's true! Their report states, "President Bush’s 2009 budget proposal includes $204 million to support Community-Based Abstinence Education (CBAE), but dozens of liberals in Congress want all abstinence money axed from the budget." Their concern to "defend" the mis-education of sex to our teens comes at time that the CDC reports 1 in 4 teen girls has a sexually transmitted infection (STI).

I have always been an advocate for quality education in our publics schools and that is not limited to sex. Benen adds, "It’s quite simple: the evidence that abstinence-only is more effective doesn’t exist." It doesn't take a genius to figure that our either. One only needs to do research for about a day to gather evidence to counter the administrations claims.

ABC News reports, "the Journal of Adolescent Health found that those who received comprehensive sex education were 50 percent less likely to become pregnant than those who received abstinence-only education. The study also found that those who received comprehensive sex education were 60 percent less likely to become pregnant than those who received no sex education at all." It's quite evident that Bush Administration has fudged everything the past 8 years and his approach to "abstinence-only" education is one of them. The reason why the CDC found such alarming ratings of STI's among teen girls should be a wake up call to all Americans but in particular parents that the last 8 years of abstinence only education has not been cutting it.

ABC asks Bias Question on Facebook

On a Facebook poll, ABC news asked users if a Democrat President could keep America safe but failed to ask the same about a Republican President. Are we to assume that all Republican Presidents can keep America safe but Democrats can not. This type of bias is common for FOX news but ABC should be ashmed of themselves. They are suppose to be a neutral news source. It makes one think why they assume a Republican President can keep America safe when it was a Republican Administration that suffered one of the worst attacks on home soil in the history of the United States in 2001.

ABC Primetime Debate Censorship

kucinich1.jpg

ABC has excluded Kucinich, Gravel and Hunter from the Saturday primetime debate. Kucinich filed a complaint with the FCC citing a violation of equal-time provisions. ABC has responded by explaining that they had extablished benchmarks in order to filter the field of candidates due to the depth of the questions.

I think that it is a mistake to negate eligble candidates the opportunity to debate. It sends a clear signal to the average viewer who does not have the time to keep up with every candidate that if the candidate is not on stage, they must not be participating anymore. Although I will acknowledge that the original intentions of ABC were benevolent in order to make the debates more productive it is obvious that the number of candidates has dwindled with Biden and Dodd stepping out. Thus, a news network does not have to decide who it invites to debates, the people will stop voting or supporting a candidate that forces them to step down. The media should not deny nor cherrypick the candidates it wishes to expose to the voters. That's the job of us, the voters!
